The Jolly Football Club annual club retreat is an important part of the club”s strategy to promote team bonding and generate new ideas for the year 2021. This was fundamental to the members’ harmony and productivity because as the saying goes ‘All work and no play, makes Jack a dull boy. Members grinned with anticipation for this year’s club retreat which was held in Owerri in Imo State, April 2021.
Members arrived from far and wide to meet with the rest of the club based in Port Harcourt assembled at Escapade Hotels for the 2-day activity-packed club retreat en route to Owerri.

The club retreat commenced with all members singing the anthem ahead of the football match against Ebony All Stars of Owerri. The historic friendly with Ebony All Stars Football club of Owerri turned out to be very entertaining with Ebony FC emerging winners with 2 goals to-1 victory. The only goal was scored by Jolly FC member, Labobo.
The next day the club members were gathered again at 9 AM for the retreat event as introductions from all members commenced in the conference center of the hotel. Members of the club stated their names, roles, and things other club members may not have known about them as more interesting details of club personal information were shared about themselves.

After this activity, the secretary, Mr.  Nnaemeka Anucha addressed the team on JFC’s core values “Accountability, Respect, Teamwork, and Empathy” which are key to upholding the organization and its progress which was followed by the Chairman Mr. Kesiye Sagbe briefing the team about the role of empathy as a core value and base rock for brotherliness.

The President Mr. Samuel Nabena took to the floor to enunciate to the team the purpose of the club retreats which is to inculcate the values of JFC and to drive cooperation and nurture interpersonal relationships amongst members for the overall advancement of the club.

After a robust debate on issues affecting the club, practical solutions were generated, and valuable resolutions were adopted.

There is no doubt about the fact that the club retreat is one we look forward to again next year. The balance of fun and learning cannot be overemphasized as key to productivity.
